We’re glad to invite Jérôme Abel to give a workshop in the framework of the “Figures of Interactivity” Biennial.

“Copy-pasting… combining the collective imagination”
Emancipation and drifts around the tools for art.

The aim of the workshop is to build an hybrid, digital artwork prototype based on copy-pasting.
Reusing existing works is the rule in free and open source environment. Datas, libraries of functions, memory locations, can all be transported, altered, recorded. Besides the assembly is a very effective method for learning techniques as it’s based on experience. Starting from various sources of information (files, artworks, sensors, etc..) that will feed our algorithms, our program will be shaped connection by connection.
The students will be familiarized with the graphical programming environment Pure Data, along with Unix commands and networking protocols.

The workshop is taught by Jérôme Abel, member of the artist collective Impala Utopia.

When? 25, 26 and 27 November 2010, 9:30-17:30
Where? EESI, Poitiers (France)
Entrance: free
Language: French
Registration: please send us an email with a few lines explaining your motivations to attend the workshop

“Copier-coller… assembler l’imagination collective”

There will also be a two day workshop on composing music for instruments using Free Libre and Open Source Software on the 6th and 7th of October. This workshop will focus on Lilypond notation software as well as Common Music / Grace, Fomus and puredata. It will be taught on the puredyne GNU/Linux. more info on workshop

Ljubljana Digital Media Lab

Ljudmila is a  digital media lab that focuses on digital production as well
as education, research and development of hardware and software. It also
provides knowledge, equipment, Internet access, server space, electronic
publishing and other affordable networking services to non-governmental and
non-profit organisations, art collectives, active individuals, and others.
In 2004, for its work as the Slovene epicentre of digital creation for group
projects and autonomous artists and researchers, Ljudmila was bestowed
the Golden
Bird Award <goog_1090993002> for the section of new media.

IRZU – the Institute for sonic Arts Research was founded in 2008 in Ljubljana with the aim of filling a local content gap in the interdisciplinary field of contemporary sonic arts. Our activities cover the following three main areas: audio technology research (digital signal processing, sonic interaction design, music information retrieval, non-linear acoustics, etc.), artistic productions (performances, exhibitions, installations, films) and educational projects (lectures, workshops), which are mostly aimed at transmitting basic knowledge on the use of digital technologies and conceptual approaches in sonic arts, to local composers and inter-media artists.

SPACE – London Residency http://goto10.org/space-london-residency/ http://goto10.org/space-london-residency/#comments Wed, 22 Sep 2010 10:43:59 +0000 rob http://goto10.org/?p=610

GOTO10 is supported by SPACE through the PERMACULTURES programme. PERMACULTURES supports artists using technology and exploring media culture against the backdrop of apparent ecological crisis. SPACE hosts 1-3 month residencies in the MediaLab supporting artists to develop and produce new work.

During the residency SPACE have offered GOTO10 time and space to develop new projects,  the residency will also host a puredyne code sprint as well as workshops and public events  related to the projects developed during the residency.

The residency can be followed here: http://permacultures.goto10.org/ or if you are in London feel free to drop in to say hello!

SPACE is London’s original radical artist support organization. Set up in East London in 1968 to provide affordable studio space for visual artists, SPACE remains at the vanguard in promoting the role of artists in society. SPACE provide platforms which enable creative people to experiment, develop and thrive, and for a broad public to engage with this creativity, through exhibitions, residencies, courses and workshops.

GOTO10 will be in residency in SPACE until late October 2010.

GOTO10 is pleased to introduce the “Buddha Buddha” workshop in partnership with Digiark of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

In the workshop, participants will first produce sounds of their own using FLOSS tools. The results of these sound experiments are subsequently loaded into custom manufactured Buddha boxes(small IC based sound loop player, best known for the works by Chinese duo FM3). Participants will then learn the basics of circuit bending and electronics to carry on their experiments in the realm of hardware.
