Damian Stewart (NZ)

Damian Stewart is a musician, programmer, and artist, originally from New Zealand and currently based in Europe. In his predominantly realtime performance-oriented work he aims to incite personal senses of the now, to find moments of pause, and to halt thought, even if just for an instant. Sound, repetition, and a fascination with process act as his raw material.

Damian's Placard performance promises live improvised electroacoustic music via MIDI controller and Pd, that explores points of harmonic stability in recorded music by continuously analysing and grouping harmonically related moments from an incoming audio stream.

Damian is also presenting RjDj, a music application for the Iphone. It uses sensory input to generate and control the music you are listening to. RjDj is promoting a music genre that they call “reactive”. The sound that listeners hear is produced by digital devices in the very moment it is listened to. Composers of reactive music often make heavy use of sensory input, which makes the environment of the listener part of the music that is heard.
