Teen Daze

Today we have the pleasure to interview Teen Daze from Vancouver (CA).
The electronic producer already released a couple of records such as ‘Four More Years’, ‘Beach Dreams’, ‘My Bedroom Floor’, and recently created a net label called Cultus Vibes (I highly recommend you to check it out!). Teen Daze has also another great side project called Two Bicycles.

This said, let’s begin the interview!

Which ice cream flavor(s) do you like the most?

I just went to a Cold Stone Creamery, which is this new ice cream place in my town, and I got Peanut Butter ice cream, with Butterfinger chunks in it. It was alright. I’m pretty partial to cookie dough ice cream myself.

What is your last or upcoming project about?

My upcoming project is a story of someone who falls into an entirely new world, that’s full of new, strange, wondrous sights. The music tells the story, and lyrically it’s much more ambiguous.
I’m taking a lot of influence from a series of books written by CS Lewis. The series is called his “Science Fiction Trilogy”. I’ve also been listening to a lot of 90s shoegaze and dreampop.

How do you make music? Any specific workflow or methods?

It normally starts by recording a loop or idea, and then arranging a song around it.

How do you make a living?

By kind people buying my albums off iTunes and Bandcamp!

How do you feel about people sharing your music?

Really good actually! I think it’s becoming rare to find a new musician who’s not okay with having their music shared, which I think is a great thing. When you have a lot more people that are open to the idea of sharing music, it’s much more likely that a community will form around the artists.

Who was your musical hero[in]s when you were a kid?

Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, and Daft Punk.

What musical genre do you love but would never make yourself?

Jazz.

Which artists are you following at the moment?

I literally want to follow Candy Claws around. I have this vision that they’re all like woodland creatures who just play and enjoy nature all day.
