Mrs. Magician

This time I had the chance to interview San Diego based pop/post-punk band Mrs. Magician.
Mrs. Magician are Jacob Turnbloom, Thomas Garcia, Evan Ehrich and Cory Stier. Their latest seven inch ‘The Spells’ was released on Loud & Clear Records in March 2011. ‘There Is No God’ was the track that really caught my attention.
The quartet is currently busy mastering its new album coming out in June. I cannot wait to hear more from them!

Which ice cream flavor(s) do you like the most?

Vanilla & chocolate together, united.

What is your last or upcoming project about?

They are pretty much all about girls, or being bummed in general.

How do you make music? Any specific workflow or methods?

The songs are so simple they don’t require any special methods. lyrics take some time, but the music itself takes like 10 minutes to write, it’s more fun writing simple pop songs i’ve found, for me at least.

How do you make a living?

Record shops, coffee shops, bars, and playing shows.

How do you feel about people sharing your music?

It’s awesome, that’s what music is for.

Who was your musical hero[in]s when you were a kid?

Max Headroom.

What musical genre do you love but would never make yourself?

I love Stereolab & the Free Design, i used to think i would never start a band like that, but i’m sure i will someday, with Tommy. i dunno… early 90’s hip hop? 36 chambers or Fear of a Black Planet type stuff, and it’s not because i wouldn’t want to, it’s because it would be insanely ridiculous if i did.

Which artists are you following at the moment?

Soft kill, future islands, kid congo powers, plateaus, ale mania, Hunx & his Punx.
