Nicolas Falcon

‘Reliable Source’ was the first track I heard and it goes like this ‘He was walking on water, turning water into wine, giving sight to the blind, dying and coming back to life…’ Yes I like to sing along :)
Nicolas Falcon writes catchy melodies with satirical and witty lyrics. This great Milan based singer-songwriter released his self-titled debut album on Aaahh records and his latest release is called ‘Big Big Boss’. He’s also involved in another project titled ‘The Record’ that is definitely worth checking out.

Which ice cream flavor(s) do you like the most?

Fior di Latte… soft serve Vanilla?

What is your last or upcoming project about?

My upcoming project touches upon many different things not so different from those on the last. If I had to sum it all up, I’d say it’s about laughing at things you’d usually cry or get really upset and worked up about.

How do you make music? Any specific workflow or methods?

The music usually comes first. Then the words. I really don’t like to try very hard to write something. I think when I do, it tends to come off as contrived and/or pretentious.
Until now, I’ve recorded almost everything on my own at home, but now I’m moving more towards getting things down in a more professional and polished way at a studio.

How do you make a living?

I teach Anglais.

How do you feel about people sharing your music?

I feel flattered, relieved and happy.

Who was your musical hero[in]s when you were a kid?

Snoop Doggy Dog.

What musical genre do you love but would never make yourself?

I wouldn’t know what genre to place these in without misrepresenting them…Some of the heavier stuff the Smashing Pumpkins used to do and some of the stuff Rage Against the Machine used to do.

Which artists are you following at the moment?

I’ve been listening to The Wind Whistles lately, who are also on aaahh records. I’ve also been listening to a band from Philly called TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb.
I’ll spare myself the embarrassment and I won’t share what else I’ve been listening to (lest I disappoint any music snobs- like I would normally pride myself on being- read this).
Just to give you an idea, the least embarrassing of them is Jacques Brel. It’s funny, I guess I’m one of those people who are ashamed of listening to stuff that isn’t at least a bit obscure and new. Unfortunately, I haven’t found anything new that really grabs me for a while. I doubt it’s because it’s not out there. I just haven’t been surrounded by the right people lately, I guess.

download track Cyanide Surprise

*Cyanide Surprise*

What are you trying to prove to me when you describe how much worse life can be?
Do you really think this will make me want to stick around when I’m feeling down
No, it only makes me want to end it all right now

Slip some cyanide into one of my drinks tonight
Come on baby just catch me by surprise

Don’t call it a cry for help
There’s nothing you can do, we both know very well
By the way do you believe there really is a hell?

Slip some cyanide into one of my drinks tonight
Come on baby just catch me by surprise
Save your two cents for my eyes (Whistle solo)
