touch me, touch me

The software part of pond is almost ready and we’re now mounting all the bits and pieces together including the touch screens. Everything is working fine but we had a bit of troubles with the serial touchscreen, even though it is supposed to be working on Xorg, the calibration software provided by penmount is really outdated and produce bogus data.

herbarium workshops

events - November 17th, 2006 - Marloes de Valk - No Comments

We are currently doing a series of 30 minutes long workshops with Amsterdam schoolkids aged 12 to 16. The classes visit the Netherlands Media Art Institute during the exhibition “Natural Habitat”. In the workshop they design their own virtual plants and make them grow on a computer. They give the plant a name and a short description. We collect all designed plants in our online Herbarium: http://metabiosis.goto10.org/herbarium

This saturday the exhibition “Natural Habitat” had its official opening at the Netherlands Media Art Institute. Our installation “Go forth & *” had its first public appearance here. It was a great succes. The exhibition was visited by a large audience, due to the annual Museum n8, where 40 Amsterdam museums open their doors from 19.00 untill 2.00 and organize special events in between, on top of or next to their art works.

jumping

code - October 26th, 2006 - Marloes de Valk - No Comments

We’ve now implemented the jumping of datapackets from one ecosystem to the next. We have also been working on the visualisation of the process. Newborn packets are surrounded by a circle, fertile packets glow and dying packets fade… We will continue to work on the visualisation and networking of the ecosystems.
